Buoncristiani Family Winery (Napa)
The Buoncristiani brothers (Matt, Jay, Aaron, and Nate) take pride in performing all aspects of enology, viticulture, wine production, and art design in order to share a true expression of their winemaking passion. Their motto is quality not quantity, and they craft their wines without compromise. Handcrafting these limited production wines allows for the utmost attention to detail of every gallon in each barrel. To ensure the highest quality wine at Buoncristiani, they encourage controlled stress in the vineyard to produce low yielding, concentrated, and balanced fruit full of flavor and varietal expression. Once grapes reach full maturity, the brothers harness this inherent potential from the vineyard to the bottle through meticulous tracking and blending of each promising component. The Buoncristiani family strives to create optimum complexity while retaining balance, varietal character, and superior quality.

The result is a refined, well-balanced wine, with elegant textures and flavors; wine that clearly expresses the varietal, while reflecting the distinctive appeal of Paso Robles. The 100-year-old adobe structure—the Clayhouse itself—is the ideal symbol for their vineyards. Eagle Point Ranch (Mendocino)
Eagle Point Ranch Winery is a partnership between sparkling-wine pioneer and chocolate-maker John Scharffenberger and viticulturist Casey Hartlip. Using grapes grown exclusively from the Scharffenberger family's Eagle Point Ranch, they have combined their efforts to produce some of California's finest red wines. More than just a vineyard, Eagle Point Ranch is an experiment in viticulture techniques and range management. The 82-acre vineyard sits in the middle of nearly three square miles of upland range and timberland. Thirty-one separate blocks, six different varieties, and numerous exposures and trellis systems all at high elevation make for very intense farming. The vineyard is now home exclusively to red-grape varieties. Continued grafting and more recent plantings have concentrated on the Rhone varieties, including Syrah and Grenache, as well as their Rhone cousin Petite Syrah. Other varieties planted on the ranch include Zinfandel, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Laird Family Estate (Napa)
The Lairds have seen a family dream come to fruition, from vine to tasting room, based primarily on the incredible diversity and quality of their vineyards. The stewardship of these vineyards began nearly 25 years ago when many pioneer farmers passed on critical knowledge and techniques to Ken Laird and later to son Justin, all in the spirit of kindness and helping hands. Today, Justin oversees nearly 2,000 prime vineyard acres for Bayview Vineyards, the Laird's vineyard management company. While Bayview Vineyards is small and completely family run, it serves over 35 ultra premium wineries including their family label. Paul Hobbs, consulting winemaker for Laird Family Estate, believes Ken and Justin are on the leading edge of clone trials and results.

Mutt Lynch Winery (Sonoma) Mutt Lynch Winery is a small winery located in the Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma County, California that specializes in limited production wines from select vineyards in Northern California. Their fundamental philosophy is that wine is made in the vineyard. They believe their job is to work closely with growers to harvest the grapes at the right maturity; then traditional winemaking techniques are applied to capture the vineyard's character. Their style is simple—fruit first, oak seasoning, balance in the mouth, ripe tannins for reds, and crispness for whites. Their focus is on producing seriously good wines with unique names and labels - Merlot Merlot Over and Play Dead, Sonoma County Zinfandel Portrait of a Mutt, and, their newest wine, Sonoma County Chardonnay Unleashed.

Robert Young Estate Winery (Alexander Valley)
Four generations of the Young family have farmed the same estate in California's Alexander Valley since 1858. Today, the family known for its rich agricultural heritage and innovative farming methods embraces a new chapter with wines of distinctive Sonoma County character. To ensure the highest quality crop, Robert Young Vineyards thinned blocks of red grapes to approximately eight pounds per vine. This rigorous thinning—performed at a strategic moment in the maturation of the grapes, when the berries possess all of the cells they will produce—allows the vine to concentrate growth in the remaining grapes, producing more flavorful, complex fruit and wines of exceptionally high quality.

Wildhurst Vineyards begins its story in the pear orchards of Kelseyville, nestled against the flank of Mt. Konocti in Lake County, just north of the famed Napa Valley. There, in 1966, fifth-generation pear grower Myron Holdenried decided to replant an orchard with 30 acres of Zinfandel grapes. Wildhurst makes direct, handcrafted wines from a winemaker's passion and a farmer's love of his land. Wildhurst boasts a Bucher bladder press, temperature-controlled fermentation tanks, small, open-top fermenters for the single vineyard red wine lots, and French and American oak barrels from superior sources in Nevers, Troncais and the Mississippi River Valley.

Falu Rosso 2004 (100% Montepulciano)
Bruno Porro (Piemonte)
In 1980, Bruno Porro and his wife Irma started a small 24 acre winery, called Ribote after an old beloved tree in front of an ancient stone farmhouse on the property. The estate lies in Piedmont just east of the city of Alba in the heart of the Langhe region. All the vineyards face south and are located at an altitude of 1,100 to 1,300 feet. Ribote focuses almost entirely on Dolcetto, and all wines carry the Dogliani appellation (one of seven officially designated DOC zones). Bruno Porro makes about 4,200 cases of wine per year. The grapes are harvested at the end of September, producing a wine that is big in body and texture. Wrapped in a robe of velvety tannins, the wine brims with aromas and flavors of currants, black raspberries, and other dark red berry fruits, and is laced with hints of chocolate, coffee, and cedar.

Carlo Boffa (Piemonte)
Carlo Boffa, owner, supervises the wine growing and the winemaking industry, while Laura, his wife, handles the firm's business and trading. Carlo Boffa specializes in the production of the great red wines. They use the most modern technologies in their wine cellar; however the winemaking processing still remains very traditional. The alcoholic fermentation can take quite long; it allows them to extract from the peels great quantities of colors, flavors, and tannins. Combined with a period of refinement in great oak barrels, it gives a velvety softness and a strong and austere character to the wines. The particular care in the workmanship of the vineyard, the most modern agronomic techniques, and the wise thinning out of the grapes in the months of July and August, gives them special raw material: grapes rich in sugar, dyestuff, and polyphenols. That is a very fine starting point to make first-rate red wines.

Giacomo Marengo (Tuscany)
The wines' genuineness is guaranteed by the rigorously biological vineyard cultivation. The firm wines include not only the traditional ones such as Sangiovese, Trebbiano, black Canaiolo, and Malvasia (whose original clones belong to them) but also those introduced lately in Tuscany, such as the distinctive red Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and the white Chardonnay and Sauvignon. Grapes are harvested and selected manually. In case of bad vintage, producers go up and down their same vineyards twice or three times, every time searching for the well-ripened bunches. The fermentation for the red, white, and rosé wines is temperature-controlled so to preserve bouquet and flavors. Once drawn off and pressed with the pneumatic tool, red wines are successively refined in oak tanks and barriques, the most distinctive white wines are refined in barriques, and the regular white and the perfect Sangiovese rosé wines are refined in steel.
